Dr. Caleb J. Scheckel is the only Oklahoman physician to earn this national award for his outstanding work in cancer treatment as an emerging leader in the field.
Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and Research Institute is proud to announce Hematologist Caleb J. Scheckel, DO has been selected to receive this year’s esteemed 40 Under 40 in Cancer award. This significant honor, selected by a national panel of oncology judges, recognizes the contributions of emerging leaders under 40 and the strides they are making in the fight against cancer. Dr. Scheckel is the only physician in Oklahoma to receive the award.

Dr. Scheckel’s recognition among this group showcases the high-quality cancer treatment options at OCSRI. As the only recipient of this year’s award in Oklahoma, Dr. Scheckel exemplifies the medical expertise patients can expect at OCSRI. His achievements spotlight the institute’s commitment to both innovation in cancer treatment and the patients it serves.

Dr. Scheckel is a Tulsa native who serves OCSRI’s main Tulsa facility. His passion for clinical trials and development sets him apart and drives his success in studying cancerous and non-cancerous blood conditions. His other research interests focus on quality improvement, safety, healthcare policy and medical economics. OCSRI’s unwavering dedication to both patients and caregivers, paired with exemplary medical skills, allows world-class physicians like Dr. Scheckel to best advocate for patients in their journey to recovery. Dr. Scheckel received a bachelor’s degree in finance and a medical degree from Oklahoma State University. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Mayo Clinic Arizona and a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Mayo Clinic Minnesota. He concurrently completed a fellowship in healthcare policy from the American Osteopathic Association. Dr. Scheckel has a passion for clinical trial development and has partnered with pharmaceutical companies developing novel applications of established therapies.
