The Power of Giving
What does it really mean to fight cancer? For most people, it is about much more than just treatments and doctor visits.
What does it really mean to fight cancer? For most people, it is about much more than just treatments and doctor visits. It is about making it to every infusion, keeping the lights on at home, putting food on the table, and finding the strength to keep going even when things feel overwhelming. Cancer affects more than just the body. It touches every part of a person's life, including their family, finances, and sense of security. At Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and Research Institute, we believe caring for a patient means caring for the whole person. No one in our community should have to face this journey alone.
A community that stands together can make a real difference. When someone in our area is diagnosed with cancer, everyone around them feels the impact. Family members adjust their lives, and friends look for ways to help. Cancer is almost never just one person's struggle. It is something we all face together, and it asks each of us to help however we can.
Paying for cancer treatment is one of the hardest challenges patients face, even though it is not often discussed. The Tulsa Health Department reports that 22.5% of cancer patients here do not have insurance, and even more have too little coverage. These numbers are not just statistics; they are real people in our community who sometimes delay or stop treatment because they cannot afford it. When money problems force someone to stop treatment, it can change their life. No patient should have to face this, and OCSRI is committed to helping close this gap.
That commitment shows up in the financial assistance resources available to our patients. Support programs can help patients in treatment by addressing their basic household needs. Paying for rent, utilities, groceries, and other daily expenses can be overwhelming when someone is experiencing chemotherapy, radiation, or other tough treatments. By easing this financial stress, patients can focus on getting better.
Everyone should have access to quality cancer care, no matter their financial situation. This belief guides everything OCSRI does. Our team works hard to provide every patient with the best, most caring treatment, no matter what they can afford. Connecting patients to financial resources continues this commitment and gives the community a way to show that their lives, treatment, and recovery matter.
When a community comes together, it can make a difference that medicine alone cannot. If a patient does not have to worry about losing their home, they can stick with their treatment. If they know their family is cared for, they can focus on getting better. By supporting each other, we help build a healthier and stronger Oklahoma for all.
If you are a patient in need of financial assistance, or if you would like to support cancer patients in our community, we encourage you to reach out to our team. Every donation, big or small, helps more patients get the care they need and finish the treatment that could save their lives.
