At OCSRI, we’re honored to celebrate Dr. Connie Nguyen, a dedicated radiation oncologist who went through her own fight with cancer five years ago. Dr. Nguyen woke up one morning with a concerning symptom: bloody discharge from her breast. Initial mammograms and ultrasounds revealed nothing unusual, but further MRI and genetic testing confirmed she had breast cancer. With immense courage and the unwavering support of her family, Dr. Nguyen opted for a double mastectomy and continued to navigate her journey with strength and grace. Dr. Nguyen’s difficult path has reshaped her approach to patient care and deepened her empathy and understanding for what her patients endure.
“I hope that I provide the care that the patients look for… [and] the empathy that patients look for,” Dr. Nguyen said. “It teaches you who you are. How strong you can be.”
